Everyone has a blog, seriously, even George Orwell
Posted by Vero on July 31st, 2008. Filed under: the internets. It seems like everyone and their mom has a blog these days. Well now it even seems that some people are blogging from beyond the grave. I just discovered through the CBC that “Beginning Aug. 9, the diaries of George Orwell will run online, one entry a day, 70 years to the day after the author [...] wrote them.” How cool is that? The Socialist in me (which pretty much consists of my entire being) is beaming with joy. You can read George Orwell until 2012 by checking out The Orwell Diaries.
On the topic of blogs, I’d like to build up my blogroll. I read certain blogs, but am always looking for more to add to my list. In the past I’ve found that some of the best blogs I’ve found were suggestions from friends and cowrokers. So, tell me which blogs you read!

I’m copy/pasting the previous replies to this entry so as not to lose these great suggestions (I accidentally deleted my blog’s database on July 2 2009 – yeah, I suck.)

i read about that today too. very cool.
even though i’m not a co-worker, i’ll tell you which blogs i read, just for fun!
http://michaelgeist.ca – hands down the best resource out there for info about copyright in the digital age. and he scathes the cons like nobody’s business.
http://stereogum.com – my fav site for reading reviews about new indie releases, finding new artists to listen to, and the occasionally good interview, video link, or indie gossip.
some more great music blogs (with great free downloads):
http://www.saidthegramophone.com/
http://www.aquariumdrunkard.com/
http://gorillavsbear.blogspot.com/
http://loveisacunt.blogspot.com/ – a fascinating collection of writings by the love-scorn
http://www.chrisglass.com/ – great photoblogger
http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.com/ – it seems so racist but i still laugh. am i racist towards white people?

I love…
http://www.kottke.org Fun links and observations about the web, entertainment, a bunch of stuff. He is really good.
http://blog.penelopetrunk.com Hilariously bitchy career advice. 90% of what she says is craven ridiculousness but occasionally she says something frighteningly true.
http://jezebel.com Gawker’s blog for women. Lots of dumb paparazzi pictures and the occasional trenchant commentary on the state of feminism.
http://www.rickygervais.com/thissideofthetruth.php I’ve never seen the British “Office” but he is v. funny

http://failblog.org/ Come on… it’s me.
I’m also obsessed with reading other people’s sexblogs. It’s kinda pervy and voyeuristic but…I have a lot of free time.

I have two blogs, neither of which is updated regularly enough or is interesting enough for me to share. (Heh.) I have about 80 or so feeds in my feed reader, but these are the ones I stay more-or-less up-to-date with:
http://metrodad.typepad.com/ Really funny.
http://www.sweet-juniper.com/ This is probably the blog I’ve been following for the longest time. It’s kind of a parenting blog, but I love their style. Now it’s gotten kind of popular so it has a ton of ads, but anyway. Read the older posts.
http://www.dooce.com Good, funny writing. (I don’t actually always stay up-to-date with this one because she posts a LOT.)
http://scottorrmusic.blogspot.com/ The music blog of a friend from high school. Funny videos, good music. This guy’s a character.
http://ofbooksandbikes.wordpress.com/ Great writing about, well, books and bikes.
http://smittenkitchen.com/ AWESOME food blog. I made her double chocolate layer cake for my brother’s birthday and it was amazing (if I do say so myself).
http://www.notmartha.org/ Knitting and crafting and other stuff. More links than actual writing.
http://howaboutorange.blogspot.com/ Craftiness.
http://www.twistimage.com/blog/ Mitch Joel’s blog. I saw him at the GoC Communicators’ Conference and he was awesome.
http://desiretoinspire.blogspot.com/ Just lots and lots of photos, great for browsing. (I want a house!)
I have a lot more book-related blogs on my blogroll too, but not sure you want all those. If you want French reading recommendations though, check out http://biblioallie.canalblog.com/.
